Fable is the daughter of a powerful trader. But after the death of her mother in a terrible storm, she was abandoned on an island of treacherous thieves. Trusting no one and relying only on her survival skills, she strives to leave the island and find her estranged father. She enlists the help of a young trader named West and his crew, and together they set sail across the Narrows. Their journey is full of scheming twists as they take on adventures, learn to trust one another, and fight for their place in the world.
Fable is a character full of grit and one that I found myself constantly rooting for. The nautical theme of the book captured my heart – like Pirate’s of the Caribbean with a female protagonist. Who doesn’t enjoy an underdog that’s fighting against the hierarchy? I also loved Young’s ability to relate emotions and life’s circumstances to the temperament of the sea. I found this an endearing and emotion-grabbing theme throughout the book. And, if you like a “found family” story, then you will love this book. It has some great surprises as more about each character is revealed throughout the story. This was such a fun, simple read for me and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to get the sequel!
