Book of the Month (BOTM) is a subscription box where you can pick from a curated list of books each month and get them shipped directly to you.
The team at BOTM selects popular, highly-anticipated new releases in many genres – from young adult, contemporary, historical, fantasy, science-fiction, romance, mystery, thrillers, and more. Every book is a hardcover.
Why should you subscribe to Book of the Month?
There are so many benefits to this subscription box and everyone has their own reasons for loving it. It’s a great way to try out new genres and authors with books that have been vetted. You can get hardback new release books cheaper and earlier. It’s also a great way to start building up your home library and making those shelves look cute.
Whether you read a ton or just a few books a year, it can be helpful in choosing your next read. I love the community and they have a good rewards and referral program. Plus, who doesn’t love the excitement of getting happy book mail – treat yourself!
The Basics:
Joining is super easy. All you have to do is go to their website and sign up with your billing and shipping information and then you’re all set. Canceling is also easy and can be done at any time. But you can also simply skip a month (more on that below).
Currently, BOTM is only available in the US and Canada. Shipping is always free. It typically takes 5-7 days. They do have a return/refund policy.
Your first month is $9.99 and after that it is $15.99 (plus applicable taxes) per month, and it works like any other automatic subscription service as far as billing goes. You can use the link below for a discount!
The Membership:
The book selections are released on the first of each month. You will get an email to let you know and they also post them on their Instagram.
Each month you earn one “credit” that is good for one new release book.
You can also get two additional books each month (for a total of three). BOTM has built up a selection of hundreds of books that you can choose from – either new selections or selections from past months.
If you don’t like any of the selections for that month, no worries! You can skip any month you want without being charged, or you can skip and use that month’s “credit” in the future.
Other Perks:
You can give memberships to friends and family. It makes for the perfect gift for book lovers during the holidays or for birthdays.
BOTM has recently upgraded their rewards program. Once you have shipped three boxes, you become a “Friend” and you can get your two add-ons for only $9.99 each and access to their online bookish boutique.
Once you have been a member for a year (shipped 12 boxes), you become a “BFF” and get a free add-on book for your birthday, a nice tote bag, and a free book from one of the five finalists of their yearly book awards.
BOTM has an app where you can do pretty much everything that you can on their website, including choose your selections, rate and review books, see your bookshelf, track your progress, and more. The app also has exclusive reading challenges that you can participate in with the community and earn badges.
My Experience:
So far, I’m loving it! I’ve only been a member for two months but I’m super excited to continue.
I want to point out that the books do have BOTM branding on the jacket. Some people may not like this but, personally, I love it. I think it looks really nice on the shelf and I know which books I got from them. I love the colors and the way they all look like they match together.
The books I have received have been very good quality and I love their selections and variety. The pricing is amazing for hardback, new releases. I can get them way earlier than I could at the library and for way cheaper than pre-ordering from a retailer.
I really like this subscription box, especially compared to many other book boxes out there. I don’t particularly want, like, or need all the other *ahem* junk that comes in other boxes. Plus, I like getting to choose a book, rather than just hoping that I’ll like whatever it is.
I definitely recommend this subscription to all book lovers! This is not a sponsored post; I just want to share something I have been loving lately with my fellow bookish community.
